More about me..
I hold a Masters degree in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I am fully accredited by the B.A.B.C.P ( British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies), and the B.A.C.P (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist / Counsellor.
I am a former trained Nurse with over 20 years’ experience in Mental Health Nursing, General Nursing, HIV/AIDS Nursing, Adult Learning disabilities, and Nurse Education at the University of Wales.
I am a trained teacher/trainer, and have 10 years’ experience as a Nurse Lecturer where I specialised in the field of Trauma, Sudden Death, Pastoral Counselling, Individual and Group Clinical Supervision, Counselling, and HIV training.
My training as an Integrative therapist was underpinned by CBT, Person Centred, Psychodynamic, and Transactional Analysis approaches to psychotherapy. Since leaving my teaching role at the University of Wales, I have amassed considerable experience in counselling and training in the voluntary and corporate sectors, Civil Service, and the NHS. I have 15 years’ experience in the voluntary sector as a volunteer trainer and managerial supervisor and several years experience of working as a substance misuse counsellor in harm reduction and a criminal justice referral agency.
My main theoretical approach is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and my main approach to teaching/training is from an experiential standpoint guiding students to self-learn from actual experience. I have a particular interest in motivational training.
I am a gay affirmative therapist and have experience of working with gay individuals and couples.
